My work is the result of a meeting of subjectivities: I am intrigued by the friction between people, between histories and ideas. The exhibition opens on Thursday 15 January, 6-8pm. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Friday, 10:30am to 5:30pm, and Saturday from 9:30am to 3pm.Paradoxically, I feel a deep need to connect with other people, to insert myself into their lives with all the audacity of human agency, while simultaneously trying to be 'submissive to everything, open, listening' (Jack Kerouac). There is an emphasis on process, exchange and an awareness of ephemerality and mortality. I seek to record moments both mundane and extraordinary and celebrate their transience.
Drawing mostly from memory, images from my past and present merge to form new images.
The drawings are arranged in such a way that the viewer is invited to create their own narrative in a small rectangular room that becomes a metaphor for my head. Here, people are invited to experience the work rather than just view it.
